On 25 June 2026, the Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) of the New Development Bank (NDB) delivered a full-day immersion training workshop on project evaluation methodologies, processes, and practices for staff of the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO) at NITI Aayog, New Delhi, India. Over 50 participants, including colleagues from NDB Indian Regional Office, attended the workshop, which was inaugurated by Ms. Nidhi Chhibber, CEO, NITI Aayog and Director General, DMEO and Mr. Ashwani K. Muthoo, Director General, IEO, NDB.

The training featured insightful sessions and presentations by:

  • Session I: International Good Practices in Project Evaluation: NDB’s Evaluation Methodologies and Approaches – Ms. Nidhi Chaudhary, Evaluation Specialist, IEO, NDB
  • Session II: Key Process Steps in conducting Project Evaluations –  Manas Puri, Senior Professional, IEO, NDB
  • Session III: Hands on experience – From Theory to Practice, Insights from NDB Project Evaluations – Mr. Henrique Pissaia and Chao Sun, Principal Professionals, IEO, NDB, and Ms. Xiaozhe Zhang, Senior Professional, IEO, NDB
  • Session V: Interactive Group Exercise – Applying Evaluation Concepts in Practice– Facilitated by IEO staff
  • Session VI: Group Presentations and Discussion – Peer learning and expert feedback

The workshop included sharing of international good practices, and discussions on a variety of topics, such as the construction of Theories of Change, evaluability assessments, ways to define key evaluation questions and prepare evaluation frameworks, qualitative and quantitative data collection and processing instruments, real-world project evaluation case studies from NDB member countries, and interactive exercises. The workshop was highly appreciated for its practical approach and concrete examples. Moving forward, IEO will deliver deep immersion trainings sessions on dedicated topics of priority to the DMEO.
