More About This Project

Lucknow city is a major economic center in the northern part of India. The city is experiencing significant population growth and spatial expansion which have led to rising travel demand, particularly between peripheral residential areas and the central business district.

Public transport accounts for a small share of total trips in Lucknow, while private vehicles dominate urban mobility, leading to frequent traffic congestion, longer travel times, and increased pollution. To address these challenges, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has introduced in Lucknow a metro rail transport system.

The Project will be city’s second metro corridor, spanning from East to West of Lucknow and integrating with the existing operational North–South metro corridor.

The Project will construct a new metro line (East-West corridor) in Lucknow with a total length of 11.2 km, including 12 metro stations. Upon completion, the Project will have a design capacity of 0.44 million daily ridership.

The Project’s objective is to provide an efficient, safe and environmentally friendly public transit system in Lucknow city, which will improve access to educations, workplaces, healthcare facilities, and commercial establishments.

The Project is well aligned with national and state-level strategic frameworks for urban and transport development, including National Urban Transport Policy and Lucknow Master Plan 2031.
