Chao SUN joined the IEO in March 2023 as a Senior Professional. Under the supervision of the IEO’s Director-General, he has led the IEO’s first corporate-level evaluation of NDB’s Policy Framework, its first Evaluation Synthesis Report on NDB’s on-the-ground presence and regional offices, its first project performance evaluation in South Africa, and the first Country Portfolio Evaluation for China. He was promoted to Principal Professional in 2025.
Chao began his career at NDB in November 2018 as a member of the Internal Audit Department, where he focused on evaluating and improving the Bank’s internal controls, business processes, risk management systems, and governance practices. Prior to that, he served as a Senior Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), with a decade of experience in risk assurance and audit across China and the UK. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and a qualified lawyer admitted to the Bar in China. Chao graduated from Peking University with dual degrees in Law and Economics, and holds a Master of Finance degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
