From May 19-22, 2026, the New Development Bank (NDB) hosted an international workshop in Shanghai on Intelligent Transport Systems and Urban Mobility Management for Metropolitan Areas. It brought together representatives from India’s Ministry of Finance, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority from the Government of Telangana, and leading transport experts to exchange insights on smarter city infrastructure and urban mobility.
The focus was on how technology, adaptive signal systems, integrated mobility platforms and the use of artificial intelligence can help fast-growing metropolitan regions like Hyderabad manage traffic movement, reduce congestion, and plan infrastructure for the long term.
The delegation visited multiple industry-leading state-owned enterprises and private companies working on AI-powered smart city and digital infrastructure such as Shanghai Electric Intelligent System Co., Ltd. (SEISYS), Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute (SMEDI), and Shanghai Urban Construction Design & Research Institute, along with academic institutions including NYU Shanghai and Tongji University, where participants explored how Shanghai’s city-scale traffic management system has shifted from reactive to proactive, with reduced travel delays, improved operations and efficient use of road infrastructure.
The workshop created a platform for international knowledge exchange and technical learning, contributing directly to the refinement of intelligent transport strategies for Hyderabad. It supports NDB’s commitment to knowledge sharing as a driver of innovation and sustainable infrastructure development.
