On February 14, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the magnificent Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, a six-lane bridge spanning the Brahmaputra River and connecting Guwahati with North Guwahati. Financed by the New Development Bank (NDB) through a USD 300 million loan, covering 80% of the project cost, this transformative project greatly enhances regional connectivity.
By slashing travel time for 3 million residents, the bridge provides improved access to key economic, health, and educational centers, fueling socio-economic growth. Engineered with advanced seismic technology and equipped with real-time monitoring systems, it addresses critical infrastructure challenges in this seismically sensitive region, ensuring safety and resilience.
This landmark achievement highlights NDB’s dedication to collaborating with member countries to tackle infrastructure bottlenecks, fostering sustainable development and improving quality of life in Northeast India.
