More About This Project
Kohima, the capital city of the state of Nagaland, has experienced sustained population growth over the years; however, the water supply infrastructure has not kept pace with rising demand.
The existing system is outdated and insufficient, resulting in limited piped water coverage across the city. As a consequence, majority of households depend upon informal sources such as private tankers, increasing their out-of-pocket expenses and reducing savings. The city’s water supply also remains highly intermittent and faces high water losses. Hence, a sustainable and dependable water supply is central to advancing Kohima’s socio-economic development and improving the everyday lives of its residents.
The Project aims to augment Kohima’s water supply system by developing a water intake facility, raw water transmission lines from the intake to a new water treatment plant, service reservoirs, and an expanded distribution network with household connections.
The Project aims at providing access to 24×7 piped drinking water supply of not less than 135 liters per capita per day, sufficient to cover needs to the entire population of Kohima city.
