More About This Project
Pursuant to international competitive bidding, State Grid Brazil Holding (“SGBH”) won the concession to construct, operate and maintain the Graça Aranha Silvânia Transmissora de Energia (“GATE”) Project. The Project will be developed by a special purpose vehicle, GATE SPV, wholly owned by SGBH.
The implementation of the Project will address immediate needs of electricity sector in Brazil – increase power transmission capacity and decongest the transmission corridor, reduce curtailment of existing renewable energy projects and enable investments in future wind and solar projects in the Northeast region of Brazil and hence lead to diversifying electricity mix in Brazil, that is presently dominated by hydro power.
The Project’s main components include: (a) construction, operation and maintenance of two electricity transmission lines (approx. total length 1,500 km) between Presidente Dutra, Graca Aranha and Silvânia; (b) development of two substations and associated equipment and interconnections at Presidente Dutra, Graca Aranha and Silvânia.
The Project will contribute to the expansion of power transmission infrastructure using modern technology to improve system reliability, increase inter-regional transmission capacity between the Northeast and Center-west, Southeast regions, and reduce curtailment of existing renewable energy sources and reduce power loss in transmission as compared to alternative transmission options.
