More About This Project
The Project aims to address several challenges in the healthcare sector of Gansu: (i) medical infrastructure and expertise in cancer diagnosis and treatment need improvement; (ii) rehabilitation services need to be strengthened and use of Chinese traditional medicine in cancer prevention promoted; and (iii) cancer-related research and innovation development requires support.
To address the above challenges, the Gansu Provincial Government has proposed to develop a new campus of the Gansu Cancer Hospital (“Project”) in collaboration with Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Centre, one of the top ranked hospitals for cancer treatment in China.
The facility to be built under the Project will meet the Grade A tertiary hospital standard. The Project includes: (i) expanded medical service capacity of the Gansu Cancer Hospital with an additional floor area of 210,663 m2, 1,300 beds and necessary equipment; and (ii) a proton radiotherapy centre with four proton rotation therapy chambers, an R&D centre, a medical science clinical centre for integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine, including an academic conference centre, with a combined floor area of 180,890 m2 and 500 beds.
The Project aims to increase accessibility to high quality cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment services in Gansu, improve the quality of medical services and strengthen the healthcare sector’s institutional capacity in Gansu by teaching medical professionals and carrying out R&D.
