On December 27, 2024, the President of the New Development Bank, Mrs. Dilma Rousseff, had a formal meeting with Uruguay’s President-elect, Mr. Yamandú Orsi, in Montevideo. The meeting was also attended by the future Minister of Economy, Mr. Gabriel Oddone, the Foreign Minister, Mr. Mario Lubetkin, and the Secretary of the Presidency, Mr. Alejandro Sánchez, in addition to other ministers of the future cabinet.
The accession of Uruguay to the New Development Bank was the central theme of the discussions, that also included the challenges Uruguay faces in terms of investments in development infrastructure, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability.
Uruguay’s future President affirmed the resolution to move forward with the accession of Uruguay to NDB.
