On Thursday 23rd October, the Independent Evaluation Office of NDB will support the Brazilian Monitoring and Evaluation Network (RBMA) and the BRICS Policy Center PRIME Hub to organise a Seminar on Evaluation of Infrastructure Interventions: Overcoming the Gap for Sustainable Development.

The day-long event will take place at the Rio Data Center of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and approximately 150 people are expected to take part, including: high-level representatives of Brazilian government bodies (federal, state and municipal), and from other countries, NDB Board members, representatives from multilateral organizations, the private sector, academic and research institutions, civil society organizations, national and state development banks in Brazil, and representatives from embassies of all BRICS, BRICS partner, and NDB member countries in Brazil.

At a time when infrastructure spending will shape climate and development outcomes for decades, how we evaluate these investments has never mattered more. And there has been growing recognition of the need to embed evaluation throughout the entire life cycle of projects, and to include participation of diverse social actors in evaluations.

The seminar will explore evaluation methodologies that integrate economic, social, environmental, and territorial perspectives, ensuring that infrastructure investments are inclusive, participatory, and climate-resilient. It will also feature case studies from the Global South, strategies to strengthen governance and accountability, and new tools for participatory evaluation. With COP30 in Brazil approaching, the event offers a timely platform to align evaluation frameworks with global climate and development commitments.
