NDB organised a knowledge exchange that brought officials from the Municipality of Maceió, Brazil, to visit the Ningxia Yinchuan Integrated Green Transport Development Project in China. This NDB-financed project, located in Yinchuan Municipality, the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is at the forefront of green and intelligent transport systems.

The delegation explored Ningxia’s advanced transport infrastructure, including AI-powered public transport systems, electric bus fleets, city transport operation centers, contactless ticketing systems and charging infrastructure.

They engaged in discussions with Chinese technology providers and implementing agencies. This collaboration provided valuable insights to inform the design of upcoming public transportation projects in Maceió.

Economist Fernando Cavalcante, representing the Maceió team, reflected on the experience, “we return with a wealth of knowledge and collaboration to transform public transport through innovation, planning and a vision for the future. The path is collective.”

This initiative reinforces NDB’s commitment to becoming a knowledge hub for its member countries, as outlined in its General Strategy 2022–2026. By connecting stakeholders and promoting smart technologies, NDB enables its members to adopt smarter, greener and more inclusive infrastructure solutions.
